CHRISTIAN PARENT TEACHER ASSOCIATION- The purpose of Shepherd of the Valley’s CPTA is to improve family and faculty fellowship. SVLS parents help in the organizing of events and all parents are encouraged to attend our meetings as families are what makes SVLS, and you are important in making this happen. Our first meeting will be Tuesday, September 5 at 6:30 in the commons. We'll introduce our officers, set a rough schedule of events for the school year and plan one of our biggest events of the year - Grandparents' Day - set for Friday, September 22nd. Please join us to discover some fun ways to volunteer at our school. Every parent is welcome! OUR NEW TEACHERS Hello, my name is Mrs. Ashley Steinmetz. I am the new second grade teacher. In the past I was a preschool teacher, a childcare teacher, and a childcare director. I am a 2012 graduate from Martin Luther College. Mr. Steinmetz and I moved to Little Chute a few years ago. This past March I had our first child, Phineas. I am looking forward to serving the families here at SVLS. Mrs. Joann Kasten has been called half time to teach students and coordinate volunteers in the Individual and Small Group Program at Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran School. She began her teaching career by accepting an emergency call before college graduation to St. Croix Lutheran High School, West St. Paul, MN. Her first call following graduation from Dr. Martin Luther College was to St. John’s Lutheran School, Two Rivers, WI. She has taught at Trinity Lutheran, Marinette, WI, and St. Paul Lutheran, Green Bay, WI as well as being a substitute teacher. Mrs. Kasten was the maternity leave substitute at SVLS for two teachers last school year. She has taught grades 4K-Grade 12 throughout her career. Mrs. Kasten assisted with the WELSSA Accreditation process at St. Paul, Green Bay. Mrs. Kasten has furthered her education at Bemidji State College, Bemidji, MN, Michigan State University, The Southwest Michigan Library Cooperative, Northeast Wisconsin Technical College, the University of Wisconsin as well as taking many continuing educational opportunities offered by State and District Teachers’ Conferences, WELS Leadership Conferences, and online webinars. Other interests include library, reading, teaching English as a Second Language, hiking, sewing, and gardening. Mr. and Mrs. Kasten have two sons (both WELS teachers), three daughters (a registered dietician, a teacher trainer, and a doctor of pharmacy), and eight grand children. Mrs. Kasten is looking forward to serving with the faculty, students, and families of Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran School and the congregations that support the school being mindful of the mission to teach children and their families about God’s plan of salvation, to guide them in applying their faith to their lives, and to share that faith with others through an excellent Christ-centered curriculum and environment.
