Biography - Mrs. Cheryl Root
7th & 8th Grade Teacher
She’s back . . . Some of you may remember Mrs. Cheryl Root from the 2012-2013 school year when she taught grades 3-4 as a one year call. Now she is back permanently as the afternoon 7-8th grade teacher. Mrs. Root’s area of responsibility will be teaching geography, science, art, writing, and music.
Mrs. Root joins the staff with a variety of experiences. In addition to teaching at SVLS (then known as Mount Calvary), she taught grade 4 at St. Mark, Green Bay; was a part-time ELA teacher for five years at FVL; was a 6-8th grade teacher at Morrison Zion Lutheran School for eleven years; filled in for one year as grade 7-8 teacher at Immanuel, Waupaca; and taught four years, three part-time and one full time at Mount Olive in Appleton. In addition to teaching in our WELS schools, she has served as substitute teacher at all age levels in a number of districts and most recently served as part-time ELA teacher at two charter schools in the Appleton Area School District.
When not teaching Mrs. Root enjoys kayaking, boating, fishing, camping, and hunting with her husband, Brian, who is 6th grade teacher at Mount Olive in Appleton. Cheryl and Brian are both Michiganders who relish time spent with family - especially their many nieces and nephews. Mrs. Root also enjoys biking, gardening with native plants, and writing poetry. Much of her poetic inspiration comes when she is out in the woods waiting for ‘dinner’ to appear. While she would starve on her harvest, she relishes the time spent in nature absorbing the beauty of God’s creation.
Mrs. Root looks forward to getting to know the students under her care and continuing the work of instilling in them a love of learning and their Savior. She looks forward to working with parents and staff in helping prepare the children of SVLS for lives of service and eternity.
