Mrs. Cheryl Root
[email protected]
7th-8th Grade Teacher
Cheryl Root’s ‘roots’ began as a country girl from Auburn, Michigan. She attended elementary school at St. Bartholomew Lutheran School in Kawkawlin, MI, and high school at Bay City, Western. From there the Lord led her to begin her professional training at Martin Luther College, then known as ‘Dear DMLC.’ In 2004 she received state licensure in Elementary Education and in Middle School level Social Studies and English Language Arts. In 2018 she also received a charter school license for ELA at the high school level.
The Lord has blessed Mrs. Root with numerous teaching experiences in the Valley in both our WELS schools and as a substitute teacher in a number of public school districts and as a part-time ELA teacher in the AASD. Her experiences with WELS include part-time and full-time teacher of grade 8 and 5 at Mount Olive Lutheran School; 7-8th grade teacher at Immanuel, Waupaca; eleven years as 6-8 teacher at Zion, Morrison Lutheran School; five years as part-time teacher at FVL; one year as grade 4 teacher at St. Mark, Green Bay; and four years at Shepherd of the Valley - one year as grade 3-4 teacher (2012-2013) and last three years as part-time teacher of grades 7-8. Mrs. Root’s area of responsibility is teaching English Language Arts, Social Studies, art, and music.
When not teaching Mrs. Root enjoys kayaking, boating, fishing, camping, and hunting with her husband, Brian, who is a 6th-grade teacher at Mount Olive, Appleton. Cheryl and Brian are both Michiganders who relish time spent with family - especially their many nieces and nephews. Mrs. Root also enjoys biking, gardening with native plants, and writing poetry. Much of her poetic inspirations come when she is out in the woods waiting for ‘dinner’ to appear. While she would starve on her harvest, she enjoys time spent absorbing the beauty of God’s creation. Some day she hopes to publish some of her poetic creations.
Mrs. Root looks forward to continuing the work the Lord has called her to do at SVLS in working with parents and staff to help instill in the students a love for their Savior as well as helping them grow academically and developing skills needed for lives of service.
